It is a painless procedure and generally finishes within five minutes provided the tooth is mobile; a firm tooth may need some more time. It all depends on the experience of the clinician how comfortable and quick treatment is executed.

Generally, it is advised not to smoke for at least a week or else it may lead to delayed wound healing or abscess formation.
Patient is advised to have anything which is at room temperature; one should avoid hot, hard and spicy food. This diet has to be followed for at least 3 to 4 days.
One can start brushing after 3 to 4 days once the initial healing has started. For the time being, one can apply paste on his finger and apply it over the teeth gently. Use water carefully for cleaning the mouth, avoid gargling.
One may have anesthesia for 2 to 3 hours, post it feels little pain which may be mild to moderate. If it is surgical extraction, there could be slight swelling over the extracted area which may be there for 3 to 4 days but that subsides gradually. It is advisable to have an ice cream after half an hour of tooth removal. External Cold Fermentation with an ice pack is a good idea to reduce post surgical swelling. We generally prescribe painkillers antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs which makes you quite comfortable even after anesthesia effect has gone.
Take lots of fruits, juices, soups, coconut water, milk etc and anything which is soft. One should avoid spitting, gargling or using a straw for having any kind of drinks. It is advisable to take a rest for a day, if it is a surgical extraction. Take good and healthy food.
